I was amazed to learn about the Characters that Apple had put into the Chicago TrueType font, but I was even more amazed that they didn’t have the characters in the 12 point bitmap font. Here is the remedy (I created the missing characters, mapping them to the proper keys with ResEdit).
Use Font/Da Mover to install the font; under system 7.0, you CAN’T replace the current Chicago 12 that is in the system file from the finder. (It won’t usually show up when you open the system file suitcase from the finder). If you open your system and can see the Chicago 12 font, you can replace it with this one by dragging it onto the system.
You will have to hold the <option> key while pressing the open button in FDAM in order to open this font file, as it is NOT a suitcase, it is just a font file.
I hope that you’ll be able to use the characters for many things. Please email my on AO @ Mac God or AndrewWynn if you use these or have any questions. I’d like to have feedback, since it did take quite a while to create the font & this table (try typing the <delete> character & you’ll get some idea of what I mean.

Here is a table showing you all the special characters and which keys to type to use them. Note that in many applications, some keypresses are reserved, so you won’t be able to type them. For example, typing <control-H> is exactly the same thing as typing <delete> (Back Space), so you will most likely NEVER be able to use it. (If you are truly a Mac Guru, you’ll be able to do it as I have for this table.)
